Tone Caps: Does it REALLY Matter?

I just can’t see myself paying $60 for a tone capacitor. I will be making a capacitor comparison tool as soon as I get all the parts, but the most that I have spent so far is $11 for a Vitamin Q “Black Candy”. The rest of them were a few bucks each. I suppose if I had to replace one in a 50’s LP that I might consider one of these repros, but I mean…

  1. I can’t wait until you’re a capacitance expert and can make us all extremely high end, fine-tuned ‘lectrics. Will you paint lines on yours like that Bumble Bee?

    Guitars should have a viewing window into the wiring when it looks that nice.

    Maybe the back control plate should be clear.

    1. That’s a pretty cool idea. Especially if you line the cavity with copper tape. I could make one on my router pretty easily. I had and idea a while back to get the largest capacitor I could find, just because it would look cool.

      If those are selling for 60 bucks a pop, then maybe we should start making them. How hard could it be?
