The first “real” bass I ever owned, I bought this while living at my father’s house in suburban Chicago during the summer of 1990. I found it in the newspaper classified ads and drove like 30 minutes to go see it. I think I bought it for $800.
It was black originally, but when I lived at 153 Rivington Street I carved my name into the upper horn, then decided I didn’t love that. So I stripped the paint off of it, stained the back and neck cherry, then refinished it.
Somehow it still sounded good, but I had no idea what I was doing and I’m sure the intonation was terrible. I used it in college, during the Wow & Flutter recordings, for most of the Context sessions, Weedo Mood Duo, Stack, and most of the dEmo Guitro recordings.
I sold it when the market tanked in the early 2000s and I was penniless. This is the one guitar I wish I had never gotten rid of.
